The Virginia Association of Housing Counselors was founded by black housing professionals in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

VAHC began with a simple yet profound mission: to empower individuals and families across Virginia with the knowledge and resources needed to achieve stable and sustainable housing. Our founders recognized a critical need for accessible, unbiased housing guidance in a rapidly changing economic landscape. Over the decades, we have grown from a small volunteer-led initiative into a leading statewide organization. We've expanded our services to include pre-purchase counseling, foreclosure prevention, rental assistance, and financial literacy programs, all while maintaining our core commitment to community well-being. Our journey is a testament to the enduring belief that everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home.
